IRON MOUNTAIN — The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center’s community living center has received a five-star rating for a fourth consecutive fiscal year, officials announced Monday.

The five-star rating is the highest possible from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The rating signifies high-quality care in comparison with other long-term care facilities homes, according to an OGJVAMC news release.

The rating is based on a combination of factors, including survey results, staffing levels and quality measures of care provided to residents.

This rating system helps families compare different nursing homes and make informed decisions about where to place a loved one, according to the news release.

“Our five-star rating allows veterans and their loved ones to feel at ease when entering the CLC for short or long-term care needs. Our ratings demonstrate our commitment to excellence and veteran satisfaction,” said Tara Zoeller, associate director for Nursing and Patient Care.

The OGJVAMC’s 40-bed community living center provides rehabilitation and extended care, including palliative and hospice care. The facility completed a 12,300-square-foot addition to the Community Living Center in 2020 that provided 11 more single-occupancy rooms, including four hospice rooms with walk-out garden views.

Starting at $2.99/week.
