Forecast: Snow possible Monday, calm on Christmas
IRON MOUNTAIN — Chances are good for a white Christmas in the Dickinson County area, with possible snow in the forecast early Monday and temperatures staying below freezing into Christmas Day on Wednesday.
About 2 to 3 inches of light snow fell Thursday and Friday, far less than what was received in some parts of Wisconsin. The highest total reported by the National Weather Service was nearly 14 inches in Beaver Dam, Wis.
Locally, the weekend forecast calls for sunshine today with a high in the teens. The predicted overnight low is 5 and wind chills today could dip to minus 5 degrees.
Clouds are expected to move in Sunday, with a high in the mid-20s. There’s a 50% chance of snow before noon Monday, with a high near 32, according to NWS.
The Christmas forecast is calm — partly sunny and a high in the low 30s both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thursday’s storm led to some schools across southern Wisconsin closing Friday.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said 15 people were injured early Thursday when a truck tried to stop at an intersection in the state’s southwest corner but slid on an icy road, causing a crash with a van and an SUV.
The crash happened amid high winds, blowing snow and sleet near Reeder, the Associated Press reported. Five of the injuries were serious, according to the highway patrol.
