Breitung sets salaries for clerk, treasurer, supervisor
QUINNESEC — Salaries for the positions of Breitung Township clerk, treasurer and supervisor will remain unchanged for 2025.
Treasurer Heather Lieburn did not request an increase in pay for 2025 and will earn $8,400. The township board approved the resolution Monday with Lieburn abstaining from the vote.
Clerk Karie Taff was excused from Monday’s meeting and left her salary up to the board. The board voted to keep Taff’s salary at $16,000 for 2025. Trustee Paul Taff abstained from the vote.
As he has for the past several years, Supervisor Denny Olson also requested no increase in salary and will remain at $9,200.
All three positions may be subject to cost of living adjustments if they are approved in January.
In other business, the board:
— Accepted the resignation of township accountant Christina Maki with regret.
— Adopted a resolution authorizing the public entity membership in the West Michigan Health Insurance Pool for a three-year period. The WMHIP is a larger pool than the township is currently in, allowing for better rates.
— Approved the renewal of the township’s liability and property insurance through the Michigan Municipal League Liability and Property Pool. The 2025 premium is $42,775, an increase of $7,987 that will be lowered by a $2,900 dividend. Reasons for the increase in premium price include an increase in township property values, four additional vehicles and an increase in payroll.
— Appointed Olson as the township representative to the Dickinson County Construction Code Commission and Superintendent Steve Mulka to the Dickinson County Central Landfill Authority.
— Set the 2025 meeting schedule. Meetings will continue to be on the second and fourth Mondays of the month, but the May 26 meeting will shift to the 27th due to Memorial Day. The board moved the start time to 6 p.m. for November through April. Otherwise, meetings are at 7 p.m.
