IRON MOUNTAIN — Get ready to dine, shop and socialize at the annual Girls Night Out on Thursday.

The event, coordinated by the Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority, will take place from 5 to 9:30 p.m. throughout the downtown and surrounding area.

Participating businesses have set their own extended hours, DDA Event Coordinator Katherine Mentel noted, adding some will open as early as 4 p.m.

They will offer specials, discounts and giveaways, as well as entertainment, food and refreshments.

“Each business tailors the night to make it their own,” Mentel said.

GNO was created to give the local economy a boost while giving the community a chance to unite with friends and celebrate during hunting season.

Mentel said the DDA will post an interactive map on their website before Thursday evening that marks participating businesses.

They also have several businesses that have partnered to host “pop up” shops within the downtown district.

“It’s cool they are able to do this — I encourage others to do the same and join in the fun,” Mentel said.

The event also gives shoppers a chance to check out the new businesses downtown.

“It’s very convenient that you can park and walk to all the destinations,” DDA Program Coordinator Tim McCauley said. “It may be the biggest shopping day of the year for us.”

The DDA also reminds everyone to make sure they visit the stores that aren’t within the district.

Music sponsor Lume has brought back Carolyn Jo & The Groove Show to perform for the After Party from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Oddfellows.

Oddfellows will open at 4:30 p.m. and have food and drink specials all night.

“Reservations are available for dinner,” Mentel added.

The Art Crawl is returning to GNO and will feature several local artists showcasing their work at downtown businesses.

The DTE Energy Foundation is this year’s GNO event and ad-packet sponsor.

Any businesses that would like to be included in the DDA ad-packet, map and social media pages can still sign-up on the DDA website at https://downtownironmountain.com.

“It’s a great way to support your local businesses while getting early Christmas shopping done,” Mentel said. “We are looking forward to another great Girls Night Out.”

The DDA thanks this year’s sponsors for helping make the evening possible.

All the proceeds from Girls Night Out go to support beautification efforts.

The DDA’s next event will be the annual Christmas Walk on Friday, Dec. 6.
