Fireworks planned at IM site
IRON MOUNTAIN — A fireworks display of about five minutes was planned for 6 p.m. today on private property near the Trump banner on a former mining smokestack on Kimberly Avenue.
Five of Iron Mountain City Council’s seven members met in a special session Monday where the proposed Veterans Day display was approved in a voice vote. The fireworks were first planned for Monday night, but it was too windy.
The display will be under the supervision and license of Todd Dooley, owner of Spread Eagle Fireworks, who has provided community shows in the past at a number of locations. The special meeting was scheduled after the city late last week received a request to allow the display.
The deadline for removal of the sign was today under a Dickinson County court order. No permit was sought for the red-and-white sign, measuring about 80 feet in height, contrary to a city ordinance for the display of signage. The sign was installed Oct. 9 and reads TRUMP vertically and TOWER horizontally.
