Fire department receives grant

The Iron Area Health Foundation recently awarded a grant in the amount of $2,500 to the Amasa Hematite Township Fire Department. The grant will be used to purchase a new AED machine for one of the department’s fire trucks. The Amasa Hematite Fire Department is made up of 14 trained volunteers from the local area. The fire department covers the Amasa and Hematite Township areas and also provides support through a mutual aid agreement with the West Iron County, Mastodon Township, Crystal Falls and Department of Natural Resources fire departments. At the grant check presentation, from left are Kristine Rivard, IAHF board member; Lyle Smithson Jr., IAHF director; Wesley Schumacher, Amasa Hematite Township Volunteer Fire Department chief; and Carlyn Raduechel, Hematite Township trustee and grant coordinator. The IAHF is pleased to support the Amasa Hematite Township Fire Department’s purchase of this lifesaving equipment with this grant.
