Aurora’s popular mud runs to return for 39th year
AURORA, Wis. — The annual Aurora Mud Bog returns for its 39th year Saturday at George Weber Memorial Park on County N.
The event, which is usually held in August, was in danger of not being held after the Niagara Lions Club decided not to sponsor it this year. They had stepped in because of lack of volunteers in prior years. Andria Antonini of Aurora, a past volunteer, helped spearhead efforts to get the event back.
“A huge thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers for making this event possible this year,” she said. Volunteers started preparations at the site on Sunday, clearing grass and debris and moving seating in place. Another work bee is planned Friday to work on the run area.
Gates open at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the mud runs start at noon. Registration is from 8 to 11 a.m. There is a $30 entry fee with 100% payout.
Admission is $10 for ages 11 and older and free for children 10 and under. There will concessions sold on site including beer, soda and food. No carry-ins are allowed.
Although not officially listed as a fundraiser, Antonini said they will be donating money back to veterans, police, EMS and fire departments in the area.
“No one wanted it as a fundraiser, so I found a couple of groups to volunteer and help us out and so in return I am going to give back to them,” she said.
“I am hoping to work out a deal with the two groups for next year and make it a fundraiser for their causes,” she added.
“Next year it will be well known what we are up to — being it’s our 40th year. We are hoping to make it a big one, but it depends on how this year goes,” she said.
