Exhibit features WWII photos
MARINETTE, Wis. — Bayshore Arts Center on the UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus is featuring a black and white photography and visual arts exhibit in the Fine Arts Gallery during the month of September. The exhibit is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Visit the exhibit from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday before the World Fest concert to meet the curator and artist, James LaMalfa.
This exhibit features black and white photos taken by Navy photographers during WWII in the Pacific war with Japan. Many of the photos were taken by Lt. Commander Edward Steichen, or men serving with him. “The photos and negatives were given to me by a friend, Allan Williams, who was stationed in Hawaii at SINCPAC the headquarters of the US Navy intelligence,” said curator and artist LaMalfa. Other items on display include air war models and paintings of a US Naval aircraft attacking German subs off of New York, done by James LaMalfa.
