State recognizes local students for volunteer hours

LANSING — The Michigan Governor’s Youth Service Awards are given to students who have accomplished either 400 hours of volunteering or 200 hours of volunteering.

The awards are only given to graduating seniors.

These students received a certificate signed by the governor of Michigan, along with a medallion for their efforts.

Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency’s volunteer center also gave these seniors a Walmart gift certificate.

Area students to receive the awards included —

Emily Copley

— The Youth Changemaker Award for 400 hours of volunteering went to Madelyn Applekamp, North Dickinson County High School; Hailey Greenleaf and McKinlee Peterson, Iron Mountain High School; and Alexis Stanley, Madeline Boehmer, Nolan White and Addie Rutter, Kingsford High School.

–The Youth Spirit of Hope Award for 200 hours of volunteering went to Brandon Truong, Emily Copley, Reece Kangas, Jaedyn Simonetti and Abram Gingrass, Iron Mountain High School; and Bryonna Sanders, Ella Rizzo, Mya Watkins, Kayla May, Adelaide McRoberts, Nicklas Doran, Michael Floriano, Julia Bradley, Iliana Gayan, Keira Bowser, Madison Jungles, Emma Scott, Lauren Abraham, Logan O’Brion, Catlyn Wetzel and Madde Hemgren, Kingsford High School.
