Niagara names the top five in Class of 2024
NIAGARA, Wis. — The School District of Niagara has announced the top five scholars in the Niagara High School Class of 2024.
The five lead a graduating class of 30. They are:
— Emma Brasure, 18, will graduate first in her class with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.724. She is the daughter of Tom and Ann Brasure. Her siblings are Michael Cavagnetto and Olivia and Reid Brasure.
Brasure is an honor student who has participated in volleyball, basketball, softball, track and field, forensic public speaking, student council, and was on the Miss Niagara Court.
She is a three-time medal winner at the state forensic public speaking competition, she served as volleyball and basketball team captain. Brasure is the recipient of the 2024 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, is a member of the National Honor Society and is the 2024 Forward Financial Credit Union Badger Girl. She has also received the Academic Excellence Scholarship.
Brasure named her mom, Ann, as her role model because she is one of the kindest and most hardworking people she knows. She consistently prioritizes her children and loves her family above all else.
Brasure enjoys shopping, hanging out with friends, watching movies, playing sports, spending time with family, listening to music and going to the lake. Her community service includes volunteering for the Niagara Lions Club, Salvation Army bell-ringing, NABA candlelight walk, Red Cross Blood Drive and youth volleyball camp. Brasure is currently employed by Pine Grove County Club.
Brasure plans to major in nursing at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., toward eventually becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
— Aiva Champeau, 17, will graduate second in her class with a cumulative GPA of 3.611. She is the youngest child of Joe and Shanna Champeau. Her siblings are Cameron and Elsa Champeau.
Champeau is an honor student who has participated in softball, volleyball, basketball, Miss Niagara Court and Badger Girls State. Her honors and awards include softball coach’s award, Softball Second Team All-Conference, Softball Utility Player Second Team All-Conference and Softball MVP.
Champeau named her softball coach, Hunter Towslee, as her role model. During the two years Townslee has coached Champeau, he has not only developed her skills on the softball field but also significantly contributed to her personal growth, instilling qualities that extend beyond the game.
Champeau enjoys cooking, baking, journaling, crocheting, reading, weightlifting, playing softball and spending time with her family. Her community service includes working at the high school concession stands and volunteering for various organizations, including Knights of Columbus and the Niagara Lions Club. Champeau is employed at Storheims Family Restaurant.
Champeau plans to major in biology at St. Norbert College, where she will also continue her softball career as a Green Knight.
— Annika Sweig, 17, will graduate third in her class with a cumulative GPA of 3.582. She is the oldest child of David and Heather Sweig. Her siblings are Elesia and Landon Sweig.
Sweig is an honor student who has participated in volleyball, track and field, basketball, softball, forensic public speaking, student council, Miss Niagara Court and Badger Girls State. She is a medal-winner at the state forensic public speaking competition, has served as class secretary for two years and is a member of the National Honor Society. Sweig is the recipient of the 2024 American Legion Good Citizen Award.
Sweig named her mom, Heather, as her role model, saying her mom’s unwavering support and encouragement constantly pushes her to strive for excellence, demonstrating that she can conquer any challenge. Additionally, Sweig admires teacher Nicole Connors as another role model, recognizing her as a compassionate listener and wise advisor who genuinely cares for the well-being and success of her students.
Sweig enjoys playing volleyball, reading, listening to music, spending time with friends, and getting her nails done. Her community service includes working at the high school concession stands, volunteering for the Niagara Lions Club Mud Runs and annual picnic, Red Cross Blood Drive, youth volleyball camp, the Gus Maker tournament, and was a sixth-grade camp counselor. She works at Storheims Family Restaurant.
Sweig plans to pursue a nursing degree at the University of Wisconsin in Madison toward becoming a nurse practioner.
— Marian Walenski, 17, will graduate fourth in her class with a cumulative GPA of 3.531. She is the oldest child of Ken and April Walenski and has one sibling, Alex Walenski.
Walenski is an honor student who has participated in basketball, volleyball, swim team, kickboxing, forensic public speaking and youth group. She is a HOSA state finalist and a medal winner at the state forensic public speaking competition. Walenski is also certified in first aid and CPR/BLS.
Walenski looks up to her uncles, Andrew and Adam, as her role models. Both have pursued higher education and achieved remarkable success in the medical field, a path she aspires to follow.
Walenski enjoys weightlifting, swimming, hanging out with friends and watching television. Her community service includes working at the high school concession stands, volunteering for the Niagara Lions Club Mud Runs and annual picnic, youth volleyball camp, the Gus Maker tournament and being a Sunday Basketball coach. Walenski works at Storheims Family Restaurant and Dunkin Donuts. She is a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Walenski plans to major in nursing at Bellin College toward becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
— Zachary Schroeder, 18, will graduate fifth in his class with a cumulative GPA of 3.516. He is the oldest child of Daniel and Beth Schroeder, and has one sibling, Reid.
Schroeder is an honor student who has participated in Legion Baseball, basketball, track and field, forensic public speaking, theater, 4-H, Badgers United, Honors Band, Badger Boys State and student council. He is a member of the National Honor Society, a four-time state medal winner at the state forensic public speaking competition and was chosen as the Music Artist of the Year in 2024.
Schroeder named teacher Ginger Anderson as his role model, admiring her unending dedication to providing top-notch education for her students and her unwavering commitment to preparing them for the challenges ahead. In addition, her remarkable work ethic serves as an inspiration to all who encounter her.
Schroeder enjoys listening to music, printing T-shirts, volunteering at the Northwoods Sports, Recreation and Community Center, driving, riding go-karts, and working with technology. In addition to his time at the NSRCC, Zach also volunteers for 4-H Badger Buds and can be found in the community raking leaves, serving meals, collecting trash and helping at the local food pantry. Schroeder is employed by the School District of Niagara and runs his own business, Scham Gear, LLC. He is a member of Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Schroeder plans to major in business at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay toward the goal of running his own business or managing an existing, successful business.
Superintendent Nathaniel Burklund, the board of education and school faculty congratulates the group.
Graduation ceremonies are set for 6 p.m. May 17 at Niagara High School.
