Alessandrini gets 11th year as IM mayor
IRON MOUNTAIN — Dale Alessandrini will begin his 11th straight year as Iron Mountain mayor after a unanimous vote Monday by the city council.
The council’s reorganizational meeting followed a Nov. 7 election in which four candidates were unopposed on the ballot for the council’s four at-large seats, including newcomer Mark Wickman.
Returning to at-large council positions for four years are Pam Maule, Ken Clawson and Kyle Blomquist, who was re-elected Monday as mayor pro tem. Wickman replaces Nathan Zemar, who did not seek re-election.
“Thank you, everybody, I appreciate it,” Alessandrini said. “I hope I can still keep living up to your expectations.”
There were no other nominees for mayor or mayor pro tem. Blomquist, who was unable to attend, was elected in a 5-1 vote with Clawson voting no.
Alessandrini represents Ward 1 on the council while David Farragh is the Ward 2 member and Cathy Tomassoni represents Ward 3. Those seats were filled in the November 2021 election.
Iron Mountain’s mayor presides at meetings of the council — as a voting member — and is recognized as the ceremonial head of city government. Reorganizational meetings are held every two years.
Although turnout was less than 4% in the Nov. 7 election, Maule thanked the 227 voters who cast ballots.
