Jane Lebouef said her new business had its origins in a simple problem: They couldn’t find a pet groomer in the area that could take their dogs.
“So we realized there was a need for one and my husband and I always wanted to own our own business and my daughters and I love animals and it just seemed like a really good fit,” Lebouef said. “We’re good with animals. I grew up on a dairy farm. So I’ve been around animals my entire life. And my daughters have been very involved with the animals as well. We had a couple of horses — we still have one — and a lot of different animals through the years: rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, dogs and cats.”
She first began making dog accessories, such as collars, out of her home.
It was part of the buildup to opening Fetch Pet Grooming on June 5 at 1040 Carpenter Ave. in Iron Mountain.
She got a good deal on the location, she said, and high traffic on Carpenter Avenue means many people see her sign every day, so she doesn’t have to do much additional marketing.

But they did have to do a good deal of work to prepare the place for pet grooming.
“Yes, we completely renovated the interior. The building had water damage prior to us owning it so we had to kind of get some areas all new drywall, all new flooring, all new paint, new electric, new plumbing — you name it, we’ve done it. Plus all of the equipment that we purchased for the business. So it’s been quite an investment,” Lebouef said.
Jane Lebouef is joined in the business by daughters Peyton and Katherine Lebouef.
Jane Lebouef received more than 500 hours of training over seven months from AKC master groomer and author Delores Lillge of the Wisconsin School of Professional Pet Grooming. Daughter Peyton Lebouef has more than 200 hours of training from the same school.
The other daughter, Katherine Lebouef, is apprenticing under her mother’s guidance. She now answers the phone and bathes dogs but is not yet doing clipping — that will happen in its own time, her mother said.
Fetch Pet Grooming has a complete line of services, Jane Lebouef said.
“We offer full-service grooming, which includes nail trimming, paw pad trimming and sanitary clip; full brush-out, full hair, full shampoo and blow out with a dryer; and then the hair cut of their choice. Ear cleaning, ear plucking. We do offer nail polish and hair dye,” she said, adding they can do teeth cleaning and nail grinding as well.
She still makes dog collars and bandanas that she sells in the shop and through Etsy.
Fetch has seen a good response in its first month in business. Jane Lebouef cites a few reasons for their initial success.
“The dogs tend to be very relaxed here. We’re relaxed; we take our time,” Jane Lebouef said. “There’s not a lot of dogs here, so it’s quiet. And it’s kind of a house atmosphere, so the dogs feel comfortable right away when they walk in. It doesn’t feel sterile, like a vet clinic. So we’ve had really great outcomes and we’ve been steady.”
Business has been so steady she recommends clients book their appointments at least a week in advance.
Fetch Pet Grooming is open from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. until noon Fridays.
