Fatal crash on US 2 in Spread Eagle

SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. — One person is dead after a head-on collision late Friday morning that forced authorities to shut down U.S. 2 in eastern Florence County for several hours.

The crash was reported about 11 a.m. Friday after an eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck a westbound vehicle near North Cosgrove Lake Road, according to a news release the Florence County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page.

Both drivers were taken by Integrity Paramedics to Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson, where one was pronounced dead and the other treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to the news release.

Names and other details about the drivers and crash were not released pending notification of family.

U.S. 2 from North Montgomery Lake Road to Condroski Road reopened at 4:35 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office Facebook post.

Assisting the Florence County Sheriff’s Office at the crash site were Integrity Paramedics, Florence Fire Department, Florence County Highway Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
