Local HOSA state qualifiers listed

KINGSFORD — Health occupations and medical terminology students at the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District Tech Center participated in Michigan Regional Health Occupation Students of America on Dec. 21 in a health-related topic of their own interest as an individual or in a group.

The students competed against HOSA members from 15 schools across the state. HOSA took place online this year, which made this competition more difficult than it has been in past years.

Despite these circumstances, 44 members qualified for state, 20 members have received medals, and eight members took first place in their specific events, all at the Tech Center in Kingsford. Michigan HOSA’s state competition is scheduled to take place in Traverse City in April as an in-person event.

“All of our members should be extremely proud of their achievements because this many qualifiers is an extremely impressive turnout,” said Jill Johnson, RN, BSN and health occupations instructor.

“I would also like to congratulate Arianna Morel, Madisyn Johnson, Brooke Coan, and Addisen Barglind for being HOSA officers this year. Each of these ladies has shown leadership qualities during this time and has made the HOSA registering process much easier for our teachers. On behalf of the HOSA leadership team, I would like to say thank you to all who participated this year for being an inspiration for future HOSA members,” Johnson said.
