Hamilton Lakes home ‘total loss’ after garage fire

Damage is shown to a garage on Hamilton Lakes Road in eastern Dickinson County after a fire on Tuesday morning spread from an adjoining garage. An electrical short was the likely cause, according to Norway Fire Chief Dave Bal.

VULCAN — No one was injured Tuesday morning after a fire that started in an attached garage spread to a house at N1021 Hamilton Lakes Road, causing extensive damage, Norway Fire Chief Dave Bal said.

An occupant at the Anthony Lombardini home reported the fire at 7:30 a.m. and firefighters were on site within nine minutes, Bal said. Although a portion of the house remains, it’s a total loss, he said.

A pet dog was lost in the blaze after refusing to leave. Firefighters were able to remove some Christmas gifts.

The fire is believed to have been sparked by an electrical short in the garage’s roof area, Bal said.

In all, 18 Norway Volunteer Fire Department members responded, remaining on site until 11:35 a.m. A crew of eight firefighters returned at 1:40 p.m. when the fire rekindled in the garage area, Bal said.
