Arrest in case of missing Iron River man

IRON RIVER – A 33-year-old woman has been arrested in Kentucky on a homicide charge related to an Iron River man missing since October 2014, authorities said today.

Iron River Police Chief Laura Frizzo said the woman left Michigan immediately after her residence was searched in March 2015 and has lived in Hobart, Ind., since then.

Frizzo previously said her department had searched the residence of the persons last believed to have been in contact with Christopher Karl Regan.

Frizzo did not identify the woman. But Kentucky State Police said troopers arrested Kelly Cochran, 33, of Merrillville, Ind., who was wanted on charges of homicide, concealing the death of an individual, conspiracy to mutilate a dead body, and lying to a peace officer.

Iron River police worked closely over the past 18 months with detectives from the Hobart Police Department and were alerted Thursday the suspect had fled Indiana, Frizzo said.

She was located in Wingo, Ky., by U.S. Marshals and the Kentucky State Police, and now is in the Graves County Jail in Kentucky awaiting extradition on charges issued by Iron County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Powell.

Regan, 53, disappeared from his Iron River residence on Oct. 14, 2014, and his vehicle was found three days later in a Michigan Department of Transportation carpool lot at Bates-Amasa Road and U.S. 2 in Bates Township.

The investigation prompted a search of the Caspian Pit in Leo Remondini Jr. Memorial Park in Caspian last October.

Frizzo said the search, which involved the FBI, yielded “items of significance.”
