\IRON MOUNTAIN — The area’s only medical spa opened for business on Feb. 23.

Owner Jenifer Mott wants to let old and new clients know she is in business as Resilience Beauty Bar, a fully licensed and insured medical spa.

A medical spa is a hybrid facility combining the relaxing atmosphere of a day spa with the medical expertise and treatments of a clinic, offering non-surgical cosmetic and aesthetic procedures by health care professionals.

“Everything I do is FDA approved. I have a medical director, so that allows me to do things that are medical and pharmaceutical grade,” Mott said.

The medical director is a board-certified Dr. Michael McAllister, who overlooks Mott’s charts and is available if any issues develop.

Besides Mott, Resilience Beauty Bar has one employee, Cheryl Schorman.

Mott has lived in the Iron Mountain area for nearly 20 years and grew up on the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base. She has been a registered nurse for 19 years and has been focused on the esthetic side of nursing for more than three years.

“COVID really burned me out as far as nursing, hospital nursing, the patient staff ratio. I just figured there has got to be something different,” Mott said. “I really ended up loving that I can make a difference but on a good level and be more laid back and still be in the profession.”

Mott said she is constantly attending education seminars and certification classes whenever she gets the chance.

One of the most popular treatments at Resilience Beauty Bar is Botox, a brand name for the neurotoxin bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which when injected can be used to temporarily smooth wrinkles. Botox works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles, causing them to relax and temporarily reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Dermaplaning is another very popular treatment, Mott said. The procedure involves using an instrument like a scalpel to shave away the uppermost layers of skin. It gets rid of peach fuzz and dead skin cells, resulting in softer skin that decreases the appearance of lines.

Resilience Beauty Bar also offers DaVinci Teeth Whitening, which Mott said can be used to make teeth an average of five to seven shades lighter. Caps, crowns and veneers can be brought back to their original color as well. Children as young as 12 or 13 can have their teeth whitened, including around braces, with little or no downtime or sensitivity with the procedure.

Other services offered include the Skinwave Hydrofacial and SkinMedica peels that can help with scars, acne and aging.

Finally, Resilience Beauty Bar can provide Zerona Z6 laser treatments for fat reduction.

Mott said she is pleased with the response she has gotten since opening in February, adding she has treatments for women and men of all ages.

“Everyone has been awesome,” Mott said. “This town has actually left me speechless numerous times since I opened — people really are loyal to local.”

Resilience Beauty Bar’s hours can vary, so the public is advised to call 906-361-5390 for an appointment.
