Bruce Brouillette retires from longtime law practice

IRON MOUNTAIN — Local attorney Bruce Brouillette retired at the end of September after 42 years of practicing law.

Brouillette did a lot of real estate law and was considered an expert in that area, according to a news release.

He also served as Kingsford city attorney for 39 years.

Brouillette Law Offices moved to 1103 Carpenter Ave. in 1986. That site closed its doors in September.

In 1955, William and Francis Brouillette graduated from Marquette University Law School and were automatically admitted to practice law in Wisconsin.

They both passed the Michigan bar exam and opened up Brouillette Law Offices in the Fugere building on Stephenson Avenue in Iron Mountain in 1958.

Francis Brouillette became prosecuting attorney for Dickinson County in 1960, a position he maintained for 16 years.

William Brouillette was district court judge from 1979 to 1986. Francis Brouillette was a circuit court judge for Dickinson, Iron and Menominee counties from 1984 to 1998.

William and Francis Brouillette moved Brouillette Law Office to the Ludington Street location in 1965 and practiced law there until becoming judges.

Bruce Brouillette joined the Brouillette Law Office practice in 1979.

Brian Brouillette joined the firm in 1983. He is still practicing and moved to Suite 200 on the second floor of the First Bank building, 500 S. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain. He will continue doing criminal defense, drunken driving, driver’s license restoration, divorce work, landlord/tenant law, wills, guardianship and medical and durable power of attorney.

Mary Brouillette joined Brouillette Law Offices in 1983. She became circuit court judge for Dickinson, Iron and Menominee counties in 1998 and still holds that position. She was the first female circuit judge in the history of the Upper Peninsula.

Lisa Brouillette followed her sister, Mary Brouillette, and joined the firm in 1989. She eventually established her own office in Spread Eagle, Wis., where she practiced until her retirement in about 2009.
