Sons of the Union meeting on Saturday

MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will meet at 11 a.m. Eastern time Saturday at the Family Search Center in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 350 Cherry Creek Road, Marquette.

The meeting is an opportunity for members and the public to become familiar with and utilize the genealogy resources of the Family Search Center’s resources, with a focus on research on veterans. Resources at the center are available without charge.

In addition, as Saturday is the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, Jim Strain, who holds the position as genealogist for the Straits Chapter of the Sons of the Revolution, will have a short presentation about the importance of these battles and “the shot heard ’round the world.”
