MARSP mini-grant funds book purchase

The Dickinson County chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel — MARSP — earlier this year awarded a $250 mini-grant to Marcus Celello, an English teacher at Iron Mountain High School. Celello requested a classroom set of “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom to use with his English 12 classes. As stated by Celello, this book is “an unforgettable memoir that has valuable life advice for young people preparing to step into adulthood. As the seniors prepare for their next chapter in life, ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’ offers wisdom about love, relationships, purpose and the importance of living with intention. Throughout their reading, students are invited to reflect on values that aren’t often part of standardized curriculums — compassion, vulnerability and the courage to live authentically. Teaching this book encourages deep discussions, self-reflection and empathy. It opens the door for students to consider the kind of lives they want to lead, the legacy they hope to leave and how to find meaning in the little things in life.” From left, students with copies of the book are: in front, Cooper Pigeon, Aiden Ellis, Brayden Rodriguez, Cameron Doers, Juliana Tapio, Jude Frizzell and Nina Sauve; in back, Bryce Davis, Jake Powell, Oskar Kangas, Daniel Manier, Landon Gvillo, Hailey St. Germain, Kaydence Humblet and Quyen Tram.

Starting at $3.50/week.
