Keweenaw Native Plant Symposium to be on Zoom

HOUGHON — The eighth-annual Keweenaw Native Plant Symposium will be from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern time Saturday on Zoom. All are invited, and the event is free. To register, go to keweenaw.wildones.org.

Nationally known speaker, horticulturalist and landscape designer Kim Eierman will present “Selling Native Plants with Cues to Care,” on landscaping techniques native gardeners can use to show neighbors and local officials that they are gardening with purpose.

In addition, Kass Urban-Mead, a pollinator specialist with the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, will speak on “Pollinators in the Woods: Exploring the Many Ways Wild Bees Nest and Forage in Woody Habitats.”

And Michelle Wietek-Stephens, owner of U.P. Native Plants in Marquette, will present “Butterfly Bonanza: U.P. Native Plants for U.P. Native Moths and Butterflies.”

The Keweenaw Native Plant Symposium is sponsored by Keweenaw Land Trust, Keweenaw Wild Ones, the Keweenaw Invasive Species Management Area and the Michigan State University Extension Service.
