Glacial Gardeners plant sale last Saturday in May
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Glacial Gardeners annual Plant Sale fundraiser will be 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 31, in the pole barn at the Florence County Fairgrounds on County Road N, just south of Florence.
Please note, this is not Memorial Day weekend as in past years. The event takes place rain or shine. The doors don’t open until 9 a.m., but participants are encouraged to come early and get a place in line, as the plants sell out fast.
A wide variety of vegetables, annuals, houseplants, herbs and perennials as well as a table of miscellaneous rummage sale items will be available. Cash or checks are accepted but not debit or credit cards.
Proceeds from the sale fund the Inga Fleming Memorial Scholarship and the Hazel Dault/DeGayner Memorial Scholarship. These are awarded annually to local students majoring in one of these qualifying programs: agriculture or applied economics, agricultural education, agronomy, botany, entomology, environmental sciences and engineering, forestry, horticulture, landscape architecture, plant pathology, soil science or wildlife ecology. Proceeds also fund other community and school projects.
To date, the non-profit Glacial Gardeners have awarded more than $32,000 in scholarships. Glacial Gardeners are associates of the Wisconsin Volunteer Association and work in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin-Extension. They are involved in many projects in local communities and schools. For more information, email to glacial.gardeners@gmail.com.
