Florence County Historical Society to resume meetings
FLORENCE Wis. — The Florence County Historical Society will resume meetings for the 2025 season at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in the meeting room of St. John’s Church on Olive Avenue.
The meeting’s agenda will focus on planning for the summer activities, including opening the museum on June 14 and their annual Strawberry Social & Quilt Show on July 12.
The opening of the museum on Flag Day will feature information from the Vietnam War with an invitation for all veterans to visit the museum and view new information added to the military room.
The Quilt Show has always brought interested folks to view the beautifully sewn quilts. This year, the society will be looking to add a section for antique quilts.
For the past several years, the society has had two walking tours and plan to continue this event. A new Walking Tour booklet is in the process of being developed and updated.
The society will partner with the Florence County Library with a program titled “Voices from the Grave — a Virtual Tour of St Mary’s and Commonwealth Cemeteries.” The program is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22.
The presentation will feature the history of six families from each cemetery, with pictures from the historical society’s digital collection.
It is the mission of the Historical Society to promote Florence County history through the exhibits at the museum and programming for both the local community and visitors to the area.
“We welcome anyone interested in helping to accomplish that goal to attend our meeting on March 11,” Secretary Debbie DeMuri said.
