KINGSFORD — There may have been a touch of spring in the air as the Golden K members gathered for their Monday meeting. Feelings were genuinely light and happy. It had been a great ski jump weekend and promised to be a good day ahead.
Chair Candy Buchcuski brought the group together with the traditional opening ceremonies. Richard Ochoa stepped up to lead the singing, which included happy anniversary wishes for Gary and Sue Proudfit.
Welcome was sung for guests Sue Sjoquist and Jinx Brew. Happy Dollars Thoughts reflected appreciation of sunshine, visiting family, and a fantastic ski jumping event. Jinx Brew added excitement as she expounded on proposed revitalization plans for the iconic Braumart theater.
Brew brought renderings of the proposed remodeling project as well as a newly discovered print of the original building as it was designed in the early 1900s.
The building has been through many changes over the years. It has seen owners come and go, each with their own hopes, plans and dreams.
The theater holds memories of first dates, first kisses and maybe meeting someone special. This April, the theater celebrates its 100th anniversary. The Braumart team of dedicated community members have a dream of restoring this building to its original status and beyond.
It will be upgraded with the latest technological equipment and additional staging space. The Braumart is a historical landmark and provides an interesting line of films, cultural events and educational opportunities. It is poised to provide enrichment for generations.
The building has gone through many repairs, changes, and updates. This latest proposed change will be a major undertaking. It will bring new and old ideas together, incorporating the technical equipment required by today’s music groups.
Bringing things up to building codes is a costly investment. There is an amazing team of volunteers working on funding through grants and donations. Your attendance and support is key to its success.
The timing and execution is dictated by the funding and support received. Our neighboring theaters in Crystal Falls, Marquette and Calumet have provided an example and advice.
Season passes are a new offering and a way you can support the theater. There are flexible ticket options to support the theater and save money when attending events. There are events throughout the year with the main season beginning in April. Complete information can be found on their website: www.thebraumart.org.
There is a Get Involved Tab on the site where you can volunteer to help with myriad of organization and cleaning duties. Assistance from the community is always welcomed. This theater has been here for many generations. With help from residents we can enhance this legacy for our time and the generations to come.
Golden K will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Come enjoy coffee, doughnuts and a few of your neighbors. All are welcome.
