Glacial Gardeners offer up to three $1,000 scholarships

FLORENCE, Wis. — Glacial Gardeners Master Gardener Association Volunteers have announced that the Inga Fleming Memorial and Hazel (DeGayner) Dault Scholarships will once again be available to area residents.

Students pursuing a two- or four-year degree in one of these qualifying majors are eligible: agriculture or applied economics, agricultural education, agronomy, botany, entomology, environmental sciences, forestry, horticulture, landscape architecture, plant pathology, soil science or wildlife ecology.

Students may be heading towards their first year of study or a returning student. Applications for scholarships up to $1,000 are available at all high school counselor offices in Iron and Dickinson County schools in Michigan, the Florence County and Niagara School Districts in Wisconsin, along with the financial aid offices at Bay College Iron Mountain Campus and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. To date, Glacial Gardeners have awarded more than $32,000 in scholarships. Glacial Gardeners are associated with the Wisconsin Master Gardener program and work in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin-Extension to extend university-based research on horticulture to the general public. They are involved in many projects in local communities and with area schools. An annual Glacial Gardener Plant Sale on the last Saturday in May raises the money to fund these scholarships and other projects. For more information, email to glacial.gardeners@gmail.com.
