‘Makin’ Cake’ to be performed at Bay College

DASHA KELLY HAMILTON

ESCANABA — Bay College will host “Makin’ Cake,” a thought-provoking performance by Dasha Kelly Hamilton, at 7 p.m. Eastern time Thursday, Feb. 13, in the Besse Theater on the Escanaba Campus.

Baking a cake has long been a process requiring patience, resources and a touch of luck. For much of human history, ingredients were scarce and costly, chemistry was unpredictable and the process spanned days. Even as abundance grew in the nation, many Americans struggled to afford basic cake ingredients.

Written and performed by Hamilton, an acclaimed author, poet laureate and create change agent, “Makin’ Cake” cuts into the history of cake, revealing what its ingredients and evolution can teach us about race, class and equity in America. The performance combines storytelling, humor and insight to spark meaningful conversations about culture and social change.

“Bay College is honored to bring Dasha Kelly Hamilton’s show to our campus,” said Dr. Amy Reddinger, vice president of Academic Affairs and Educational Equity. “Ms. Kelly Hamilton is a dynamic voice for change, and we are excited to host this unique conversation on culture, class, race and cake.”

This event is open to the public and promises to be both refreshing and fun. After the performance, attendees are invited to stay for a cake reception, leaving room for dessert and dialogue.

Tickets are $5 for the general public, and free for any K-Bay students and employees. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone at 906-217-4045, or in person at the Box Office in the Besse Center.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to experience a powerful performance, meaningful conversations and delicious cake. Bring friends, family and colleagues for an unforgettable evening.
