KINGSFORD — The holidays have passed, school has restarted and people have begun to settle into everyday life. January began the New Year with the expected cold. Snow-related events await the appearance of the frozen crystals. People who work and play in the snow are left wondering, “Where is that white stuff?”

Chairperson Sharon Scholke shook off the chill and rang the bell initiating the first Golden K meeting of the year. With opening ceremonies completed, Alyce Derwinski adjusted her bench at the piano and handed a list of songs to her able stand-in song leader Richard Ochoa. The group projected a glorious version of the oldies.

Happy Dollars reflected holiday gratefulness and wishes for a spectacular 2025. Bill Roberts keeps the group on its toes in sports as he looks forward to the Lions meeting their next challenge with success.

Scholke shared news that her grandson, Michael Scholke, will soon become prosecutor for Florence County. Candy Buchcuski happily picked up winnings from the 50-50 drawing.

Happy Birthday was sung for Jim Benzing and Brett Calcari, and the welcome song rang out for guests Crystal Hogan and Dawn Kranz.

Scholke’s thought for the day: “Refuse to be bored, as there is so much in life to appreciate and celebrate.”

Hogan and Kranz took center stage and brought joy to life with their music. The songs brought messages of hope and love for all. They began with the Beatles tune “All You Need Is Love,” followed by “Put A Little Love In Your Heart.”

Next came advice from Simon and Garfunkel, “The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy)” and Paul Simon’s “Slip Sliding Away.” The sing-along finale was “Put Your Hand In The Hand.” Songs full of peace, calmness and hope to focus on as we transcend into the New Year.

Golden K will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, with guest speaker Barb Kramer. She will bring up-to-date news concerning the Lake Antoine Park Partners. All are welcome.Duo performs at Golden K meeting
