Dickinson library events set
IRON MOUNTAIN — Upcoming Dickinson County Library events include:
— Mahjong Monday: 1 to 3 p.m. every Monday in January at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Beginner and expert adults will play mahjong, a tile-based game developed in 19th-century China. Those new to the game can learn from our instructor, and seasoned players can play the game with one another. Participants can bring their own tiles to use, but it’s not necessary. Registration is required; call the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain at 906-774-1218. Space is limited.
— Great Start Story Stroll: Through Monday, March 10, at City Park in Iron Mountain.
Take a stroll around City Park and read the book “Bad Kitty Does Not Like Snow” by Nick Bruel as part of the library’s partnership with Great Start.
— Lego Club: 3:15 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.
Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade will build a maze out of Legos and then try out their mazes with marbles.
— Write On.: 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Adults and teens are invited to join this group that focuses on providing an encouraging and supportive space for all types of writers. This month, attendees will have a quiet space to work on current or new writing projects with opportunities to share ideas, tips and feedback.
— Elder Law Basics and Tips: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Attorney Jacob Spear fwill provide an informative educational seminar about the basics of estate planning and elder law. This program for adults will cover estate planning, trusts and wills, protecting assets, power of attorney, Medicaid/Medicare and more. Resources will be available, along with time to ask questions.
— Little Senses Playgroup: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Every month, they will have different stations designed to engage a child’s senses with fun activities such as tactile bins, sensory bottles, fine motor activities and early literacy activities. This is a special time for young children to discover and play at their own pace, though we do ask that an adult stays to supervise. While this event is ideal for ages 1 to 3, older siblings are welcome, too.
— Solomonson Branch Book Club: 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.
Adults are invited to discuss this month’s selection, “The Waters” by Bonnie Jo Campbell. New members are always welcome to join the book club.
— Mythical Movie and Mini-Pies: 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. Friday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Kids ages 7 to 12 can come in for a viewing of the animated film “Smallfoot,” rated PG. Migo, a young yeti, goes on a journey to find the existence of humans. Participants can make mini-pies and enjoy them during the movie. Registration is required — call the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain at 906-774-1218 to sign up. Space is limited. — Meet K-9 Officers Cheeto and Scout: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Come meet K-9 Officer Cheeto, along with his partner Dickinson County Sheriff Deputy Randall Howe, and K-9 Scout with his partner Kingsford Public Safety Officer Rodney Woodward at this program for all ages. Learn how the officers came to the area, what type of training they have done, and special skills they can do. Time will be available to ask questions and a special treat offered to thank the officers for keeping the public safe.
— The Graveyard Shift Book Club: 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain
This club is perfect for teens and adults who love to read true crime, horror, and/or books with supernatural elements. This month will discuss “The Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold. Discussion packets are available at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
