Library sets events in December

IRON MOUNTAIN –Dickinson County Library events for December include —

— In December, all Dickinson County Library Branches will collect items for local schools. Wish lists are available at all Dickinson County Library sites and on the DCL website at www.dcl-lib.org.

— Christmas Walk: 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Ring in the holiday season by making ornaments at the Dickinson County Library as part of the Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority and First National Bank & Trust’s Christmas Walk. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit from 4 to 5:30 p.m. No registration is needed tomeet Santa and photos can be taken. The Kingsford High School Jazz Band will entertain with holiday classics from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Cookies will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

— Christmas in Norway: 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Norway City Hall, 915 Main St.

All ages may join the library for Christmas crafts at Norway City Hall. After making crafts, enjoy Santa’s parade on Main Street and visit Santa and Mrs. Claus. Cookies will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

— A Creepy Christmas: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Unwrap creepy Christmas traditions from around the world at this unique program for teens and adults. No registration is required.

— A Merry Little Party: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.

Celebrate the season at this program for all ages. They’ll have supplies to make ornaments and other crafts that will brighten your holidays. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

— Book Club: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Adults are invited to discuss the New York Times bestselling novel “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah. New members are always welcome.

— Lego Club: 3:15 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.

This program for kindergarten through eighth-grade students offers the opportunity to be creative while building with Legos. This month, participants will have a Lego-filled extravaganza with Lego-themed activities such as bingo, pin the head on the Lego man and more.

–The 2025 Library budget hearing will be at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain, with the December board meeting to immediately follow. The public is welcome to attend.

— Write On. Writers Group: 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Adults and teens are invited to join this group that focuses on providing an encouraging and supportive space for all types of writers. Participants this month will work on their own writing projects or can use the writing prompts provided. No registration is required.

— Bow Wows and Books: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Patrons of all ages and reading abilities can practice reading aloud to therapy dogs Roz, a golden retriever; Azul, a Siberian husky mix; Belle, a black Lab mix; and Angel, a teddy bear. Reading to therapy dogs can boost a child’s confidence. Required registration begins on Wednesday — call 906-774-1218 to sign up for a 15-minute time slot with any or all four dogs.

— Christmas Storytime Sessions: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at the North Dickinson Branch; 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.; and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

‘Tis the season for Christmas-themed storytime sessions for kids to age 5 and their caregivers. Enjoy the books “Snowmen at Christmas” by Caralyn Buehner and “Bear Stays Up for Christmas” by Karma Wilson, along songs, activities, and crafts to get into the holiday spirit. No registration is required.

— Gamers Club: 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; and 3:15 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.

Get your game on with a variety of video and board games at this program for kids in third through eighth grades. No registration is required.

— The Graveyard Shift Book Club: 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

This new book club is perfect for teens and adults who love to read true crime, horror, and/or books with supernatural elements. This month, discuss “The Winter People” by Jennifer McMahon. Discussion packets are available at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. No registration is required.

— Just Doh It: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

This playdough club provides guided and independent activities such as letter formation, shape identification, and more for ages 3 to 5. Playing with playdough is a great activity to build fine motor skills and encourages children s language and literacy, science, and math skills all at the same time. No registration is required.

— Book Club-Solomonson Branch: 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

Adults are invited to discuss this month’s book club selection, “A Christmas Memory” by Truman Capote. New members are always welcome.

–All library sites will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24-25, in for the Christmas holiday. Regular hours at all sites will resume on Thursday, Dec. 26.

— The North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 31. The main library and Solomonson Branch in Norway will close at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31. All sites will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1, for of the New Year’s Day holiday. Regular hours at all sites will resume the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 2. The main library in Iron Mountain and the Solomonson Branch will reopen at 1:30 p.m. The North Dickinson Branch will resume normal hours at 2 p.m.
