Reservations due for Pikkujoulu gathering
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain area Finnish American Raja Ryhma Border Group will have its annual Pikkujoulu gathering on Saturday, Dec. 7.
All are welcome to join in the fun at the Recreation Lanes Antoine Room in Iron Mountain. A meet and greet is set for noon with a catered meal served by Zollner’s at 1 p.m.
Pikkujoulu, translated “Little Christmas,” is a fairly recent custom in Finland. It developed as a pre-Christmas event to brighten the long Finnish nights and to get people into a holiday mood. The Raja Ryhma Border Group enjoys following Finnish traditions and has had an annual Pikkujoulu for many years.
During the afternoon, those who attend will enjoy Tanja Stanaway’s musical talent as she sings and plays her guitar or accordion. Some selections will be familiar Finnish songs.
Have you heard about the Moomins? Melanie Olson and Doug Karttunen will introduce them in storybook style.
The cost for this holiday festivity is $25 per person and $10 for children ages 10 or younger. Prepaid reservations should be sent to Raja Ryhma, P. O. Box 565, Iron Mountain MI 49801.
