Bay College and the Escanaba City Band to unite for a free concert

ESCANABA — Get ready for an evening filled with festive cheer and heartwarming generosity as Bay College and the Escanaba City Band join forces for a show Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the Besse Theater on the Escanaba Bay College Campus.

This free holiday concert promises to be a magical experience as the Escanaba City Band dazzles the audience with a full-length Christmas concert.

In addition, several Bay College Student Clubs, staff, and local organizations will coordinate a variety of charitable efforts to ensure those in need have a brighter and warmer holiday season.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time, and the concert will start at 7.

The community can show support by making a monetary donation or by bringing an item deemed “in need” by the organization itself. Donations are encouraged but not required to attend the concert. Bay College is proud to have these Student Clubs and participating Bay College employees who initiated charitable efforts on campus this holiday season:

— Silent Night Auction, coordinated by TRIO Student Support Services. The community can show their support by bidding on items such as artwork, gift baskets, baked goods, and more–which were donated by staff, faculty, and students. The profits from this Silent Auction will provide opportunities for the TRIO SSS team to open more events and College Transfer Trips to the entire student body at Bay College. For more information about TRIO SSS, email trio@baycollege.edu.

— Bay College Food Pantry. TRIO Student Support Services will be accepting non-perishable donations for the Bay College Food Pantry. The pantry helps students who are dealing with food insecurity. All non-perishable donations are welcomed, and certain priority items include: pasta (all different types of noodles), canned fruit, canned tuna/chicken, rice, spaghetti sauce, microwaveable meals, butter, basic seasonings, eggs, jam, granola bars, and “grab-and-go” snacks. For more information, contact FoodPantryESC@baycollege.edu.

–Holiday Helpers, supported by the Student Nurses Association and the EMT/Paramedic Club as part of their holiday service project. Holiday Helpers is an organization that delivers Christmas gifts to families in need throughout Delta County. Holiday Helpers also helps fulfill holiday wishes for veterans at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. For a list of needed items or for more information, contact Jennifer Farnsworth at farnswoj@baycollege.edu.

— Warm Coats for Warm Hearts, supported by the Business Professionals of America Association and Lake Superior State University students, will be collecting gently used or new coats and winter gear like hats, gloves, and snow pants. Donations will be given to the Tri-County Safe Harbor, Salvation Army, Sandhill Low Income Housing, and the Child Advocacy Center. If unable to attend the “Night of Giving” event, collection boxes will also be located off-campus at: Ashley Furniture in Escanaba, Pat’s IGA in Gladstone, Perronville Pub in Bark River, Intenegra First Federal Credit Union in Powers, KFC in Escanaba, Peninsula Federal Credit Union in Escanaba and Elmer’s County Market in Escanaba. For questions or to volunteer, contact Landon Dugree at marcy.dugree@baycollege.edu.

— Christmas Drive with the Salvation Army, coordinated by Joseph Mold, advisory board member. Monetary donations, new toys for birth to age 18, or new winter coats of any size will be accepted at this event to assist the Escanaba area Salvation Army Christmas Drive. Collection sites off-campus are also happening throughout the community that support the Salvation Army, which include the Red Kettle Campaign and the TV6 Can-a-thon. New coats of all sizes and toys can be donated to the Escanaba or Iron Mountain Salvation Army offices. The public can sign up to volunteer or donate directly online.

— Bay College Student Emergency Need, coordinated by the Bay College Foundation Office. Donating to the Bay College Foundation helps remove financial barriers to student success.
