‘GOLD’ premiere screening Sept. 15
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Braumart in Iron Mountain will host a special area premiere screening of the movie “GOLD” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15.
“GOLD” is a documentary exploring the lives of four dancers at the Gold Nugget strip club in Spread Eagle, Wis. The film focuses heavily on Dusty’s story, who was a dancer in the ’90s. She has owned the club for 30 years, and runs it in a way that empowers women, guiding them to further education, encourages them toward sobriety, and offers respect and support through unconditional — and sometimes tough — love.
Each of these women have unique and different pasts that landed them in the industry, but each of their stories are relatable to women everywhere. Both inspiring and heartbreaking at times, “GOLD” offers a unique perspective into the world of women who work at this particular club in this rural part of the U.S.
“GOLD” is an inspiring story of resilience, overcoming oppression, and finding your voice.
“‘GOLD’ is a great example of the human stories that are abundant in communities that are often overlooked, and how documentaries in particular can help us find empathy for people from all walks of life,” said Seth Anderson, a U.P.-based filmmaker and Braumart board vice-president.
Director Paige McKenna Grube is an award-winning documentary filmmaker from Meme, Wis. She attended film school in San Diego and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2013. From there she moved to Green Bay to work as a production coordinator and has worked at production companies in the Green Bay area over the years.
Her experience has varied from working in corporate video as a video and photography producer for Kohler Co. in Sheboygan to independent commercial advertising agencies. Her current role is producer/editor at a small production agency in Green Bay.
Grube strives to use her independent filmmaking career as a way to give a voice to those who don’t often have the opportunity to tell their stories. Her passion is to tell truthful, emotionally raw and unique stories.
Perhaps Grube’s best professional attribute is that she focuses on doing the work up front of relationship building and cultivating trust between her and her subjects.
All her films so far are passion projects with very small budgets. She receives funding through grants and donations through GoFundMe.
“The Braumart strives to present quality, cultural events that stir the emotions and challenge the awareness of our community through film, music, theatre, dance, art, and writing,” said Jinx Brew, Braumart director. “Come to The Braumart to experience the Braumart magic on Sept. 15.”
All proceeds from this event will benefit a local non-profit in Iron Mountain.
