Reception for librarian Buck today
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson County Library events for February will include:
— Public Librarian of the Year Reception: 2 to 6 p.m. today at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Celebrate the Michigan Library Association’s Public Librarian of the Year, Megan Buck.
Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
— Winter Storytime Sessions: 10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Feb. 8 and Feb. 22, at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 13 and 20, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; and 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.
Warm up with books, songs, activities, and crafts at the Winter Storytime Sessions. These programs for kids through age 5 and their caregivers will use the five ready-to-read practices: reading, singing, talking, playing, and writing to promote early literacy practices and create lifelong readers. No registration is required.
— Lego Club Jr.: 4 p.m. Monday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Calling all budding engineers — kids in kindergarten through second grade will be challenged to build a Valentine out of Legos at this month’s meeting. Playing with Legos increases fine motor skills, helps gain problem-solving skills, builds self-confidence, and more. No registration is required.
— Gamers’ Club: 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Solomonson Branch in Norway; 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the North Dickinson Branch; and 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Kids in third through eighth grades are invited to play a variety of video and board games at this monthly program. No registration is required.
— Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain Book Club: 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Adults are invited to discuss the February book club selection, “The Wreck” by Landon Beach. New members are always welcome.
— Lego Club: 4 p.m. Tuesday at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch Township.
Build yourself up at Lego Club. This monthly program for kids in third through eighth grades offers the opportunity to be creative while building with Legos. This month, participants will be doing Lego charades. Prompt cards will tell them what to build, once completed everyone will try to guess what was built. Grades kindergarten through eighth are invited to attend North Dickinson’s session. No registration is required.
— The February Dickinson County Library Board meeting will be 5 p.m. Tuesday. The public is welcome to attend.
— Shh…Out!: 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Make friendship bracelets and enjoy some Valentine’s Day treats from the Friends of the Library at this month’s program. This program is for all teens in ninth through 12th grades and is a welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ teens and allies to just be themselves. Therapy dog Maverick will also be in attendance. No registration is required.
— Galentine’s Movie Night: 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Tweens, teens, and adults can celebrate Valentine’s Day with gal pals and watch the movie “Barbie,” rated PG-13. Enjoy a popcorn bar to make a special treat and a Barbie-themed photo opportunity will be available. Don’t forget to wear pink for this fun night. Join the library for play dough club that provides guided and independent activities such as letter formation, shape identification, and more for kids ages 3 to 5. Playing with play dough is a great activity to build fine motor skills and encourages children’s language and literacy, science and math skills. No registration is required.
