Dickinson County had a new death blamed on COVID-19 in the past week, along with an increase in confirmed virus cases, state data shows.

Dickinson County recorded 25 new confirmed virus positives since Feb. 21, 11 more than the previous week, according to figures posted Tuesday on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website. Iron County had 12 new cases, down three compared with the week before.

The MDHHS website Tuesday added 218 confirmed COVID-19 positives since Feb. 21, up 37 from the previous week, to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 58 in Marquette County, 40 in Houghton County, 25 in Dickinson County, 21 in Menominee County, 17 in Gogebic County, 14 in Delta County, 12 in Iron County, 11 in Keweenaw County, 10 in Chippewa County, five in Ontonagon County, three in Schoolcraft County and one in Baraga and Luce counties.

In addition to Dickinson County, the U.P. had a confirmed virus-related death in Delta County.

Based on the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 63,809 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 987 confirmed deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.

Keweenaw County at 596 confirmed cases and 67 probable, and 15 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 784 confirmed cases and 886 probable, 17 confirmed deaths and five probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,199 confirmed, 142 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,287 confirmed, 834 probable and nine deaths, 10 probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,409 confirmed cases and 825 probable, 14 deaths and five probable; Mackinac County, 1,945 confirmed cases and 1,045 probable, 34 deaths and six probable; Baraga County, 2,148 confirmed cases, 457 probable and 60 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 3,175 confirmed cases and 427 probable, 84 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,598 confirmed cases and 695 probable, 44 deaths and 34 probable; Chippewa County, 4,198 confirmed cases and 6,060 probable, and 99 deaths, 21 probable; Menominee County, 4,932 confirmed cases, 2,229 probable and 69 deaths, 16 probable; Dickinson County, 6,257 confirmed cases and 3,101 probable, 106 deaths and 25 probable; Houghton County, 8,291 confirmed cases, 1,249 probable, 96 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 9,123 confirmed cases and 3,306 probable, 151 deaths and 39 probable; and Marquette County, 14,867 confirmed cases, 4,401 probable and 147 deaths, 22 probable.

The MDHHS on Tuesday added 7,483 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Feb. 21, up 936 for the week, or an average of about 1,069 cases per day for the seven-day period, for a total of 3,057,222 cases since COVID tracking began. The state since Feb. 21 recorded 139 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus, up 50, to reach 42,096.

The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, usually on Tuesdays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County at 14,526 COVID-19 positives so far, up 54 since Feb. 22, and 149 deaths; Vilas County, 6,494 positives, up 11, and 108 deaths; Forest County, 3,330 positives, up five, and 56 deaths; Iron County, 1,814 positives, up seven, and 50 deaths; and Florence County, 1,347 positives, no change, and 17 deaths.
