Schoolcraft County has first COVID-19 case
Schoolcraft County has its first confirmed case of COVID-19.
The Luce Mackinac Alger Schoolcraft District Health Department stated in a news release the case was identified through a private laboratory. LMAS released few details except to say the individual had “no history of recent domestic travel” and the risk to the public is considered to be low.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday afternoon reported 38 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Upper Peninsula, including four deaths.
Schoolcraft County joined Luce, Houghton and Chippewa counties in having a single case; Dickinson has two cases, one a death; Mackinac and Gogebic County each have three cases, with a death in Gogebic; Delta County has eight cases; and Marquette County has 18 cases and two deaths.
The MDHHS also separately lists prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.
Iron, Menominee, Keweenaw, Baraga, Alger and Ontonagon counties have had no positive cases so far.
The MDHHS reported 1,376 new COVID-19 cases in the state Wednesday, with a total of 20,346 to date. The state had 114 new deaths for a total of 959 to date.
