LANSING (AP) — The Michigan State Police is recalling 55 state troopers who had been laid off this summer to save money. The state police director, Col. Peter Munoz, said Thursday in a release that just over half of the 100 troopers laid off June 28 would be back on the job starting by Nov. 16.
A spokeswoman for Gov. Jennifer Granholm had said Wednesday the state budget office needed a week to 10 days to go over the State Police budget the governor signed last week to make sure enough money was available to keep the troopers on the job.
