NEWBERRY - Norway's Justin Anderson and Austin Hansen have qualified for the Golf Association of Michigan Junior Invitational.
Carney's Hunter Eichhorn captured this week's U.P. Golf Association Junior Finals, shooting a one-under par 71 at Newberry Country Club. Anderson placed second with a 75, followed by Mike McGee, 77; Hansen, 78; Brett Specker, 79; Gunnar Stien, 79, and Wyatt Liston, 79.
Madison Wilkie won the girls portion of the U.P. junior tournament with an 88. Runner-up Kaalin Crawford shot a 105.
The top five boys and two girls from Newberry earned state berths Sept. 20-21 at Michigan State University's Forest Akers Golf Course.

IRON MOUNTAIN - Jan Strand tallied a 29 to win Class A "Low putts" in Pine Grove Country Club's ladies 18-hole league Tuesday.
Gail Wozniak, 32, was Class A runner-up; Class B, Lisa Fittante, 33; Sue Nanninga, 34; Class C, Marlene Black, 32;Greta Michaud, and Class D, Sharon Danielson, 32; Julia Cini, 33.
For closest to the pin on No. 13, Class A went to Becky Cecconi; Class B, Sue Nanninga; Class C, Wendy Zambon, and Class D, Barb Hunter.

NORWAY - Mark Zenko and Danny Steeno have maintained their "B" Division lead in the Forward Financial Monday Night Golf League.
With two weeks remaining in the Oak Crest Golf Course circuit, Zenko-Steeno show 37 points. Mike Boileau-Trevor Vassar lead "A" Division with 36 points.
Mike Peters and Steve Alexa shared "A" Division medalist honors at two-over par 38. Tim Alexa led "B" Division with a 41.

NORWAY - Dennis "Strawman" Anderson registered his first hole-in-one Thursday at Oak Crest Golf Course.
Anderson used a 3-wood on the 165-yard fourth hole.

ROCHESTER - The 93rd Michigan PGA Professional Championship is Monday through Wednesday at Oakland University, and in addition to being a state championship for Michigan golf professionals it serves as the starting point on the road to the 2015 PGA National Championship next year at Whistling Straights in Wisconsin.
The low nine golfers from the field of 141 professionals playing in the 54-hole $53,000 championship on the Katke Cousins and R&S Sharf golf courses at Oakland U earn spots in the PGA Professional National Championship later this summer at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. The low 20 there move on to Whistling Straits.
Former national club pro champion Scott Hebert of Escanaba is exempt.
