Slajus wins Detroit News outstanding graduate award

KINGSFORD - Kingsford High School graduate Lillian Slajus has won the Detroit News Outstanding High School Graduate Award.

For more than a quarter century, The Detroit News has been recognizing Michigan's best and brightest high school students through the Outstanding Graduates program.

The top seniors were chosen from a field of outstanding nominees. Public and private high schools in Michigan were invited to nominate students in each of 11 categories. Students were selected on the basis of grades, test scores, honors, community involvement and a demonstrated ability in one of the academic areas.

Lillian won in the category of World Studies.

"Lillian is a young lady whose work ethic is beyond reproach. She is an extremely successful student in the classroom. Her commitment and dedication to every task she undertakes is truly amazing," noted KHS Principal Lyle Smithson.

"This dedication and success has led her to be greatly respected by both her teachers and her peers. We are extremely proud of Lillian receiving the Detroit News Most Outstanding Student Award in World Studies," he added.
