FLORENCE, Wis. - Registration for the Saturday, July 12, Badwater Bash and Bass Tourney on the Twin Falls Flowage in Florence is under way.
Registration date determines starting position, so those interested are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible at www.exploreflorencecounty.com under "Events." There is a limit of 75 boats.
This is a catch and release tournament allowing artificial bait only. Water temperatures will determine whether three or five fish are kept per person.
Team Biernasz from Wausaukee, Wis. (Russ Martin, left, and Dan Biernasz) won the $1,500 first place prize at the 2013 Badwater Bash and Bass Tourney with 19.2 total pounds.
Participants may use either a Wisconsin or Michigan fishing license, as the flowage is border water.
The cost per boat is $75. Cash prizes will be paid to the first five places and the heaviest single bass. There is a guaranteed cash pot of at least $2,000.
All boats must check in at 5 a.m. on July 12 for a 6 a.m. start at Vagabond Park on U.S. 2.
The Badwater Bash starts at 3 p.m. with food and activities including a bounce tent for kids, minnow races, and other family games. The official weigh-in and awards ceremony for the bass tourney begins at 4 p.m.
The Badwater Ski-ters will perform their show at 5 p.m., and the local rock band OZ will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 10:20 p.m. on a professional stage by the water.
Volunteer firefighters from the Florence Fire Department will work the beer; participants are asked to support them by not carrying in beverages. There is no cover charge to attend.
