KINGSFORD - The Magic of Music filled the air from beginning to end at the Golden K April 28 meeting. The Norway High School Jazz Band kept us tapping our toes and clapping our hands as they played their musical instruments like professionals. It was wonderful. They really jazzed it up.
THE NORWAY HIGH School Jazz Band, under the direction of Greg Hunt entertained the members of the Golden K Club. THE KICKERS INCLUDED Marlene Ciochetto, Betsie Benzie, Karen Peronto, Joyce Butsic, Judy London, Jean Alleva, Audrey Mueller and Phyllis Ewig.
NHS Band Director Greg Hunt along with the band was welcomed and introduced by April GK chairperson, Orice Walters. Thanks to Bruce Stuart who annually keeps the NHS Jazz Band on the GK program. Doing a great job accompanying the band on the piano was Christina Anderson.
The NHS Jazz Band along with other area schools will be competing in a music festival on Friday in DePere, Wis. Best of luck from Golden K to all the young musicians as they show off their musical talents on Friday in Wisconsin.
The jazz band instruments included sax, trombones, trumpet, percussion and piano.
The lively songs, some that will be played at the festival in Wisconsin were: "Celtic Aire," "Pick Up the Pieces," "Bay Side Groovin'," and "Lester Leaps In," "Honk."
Later in the program Orice introduced the Kickers who are local area ladies that just enjoy line dancing. They were so enjoyable to watch and again our toes were tapping. The music they danced to included "Blue Roses," "Achy Breaky Heart," "New York New York," "In the Mood," and "Fly Like A Bird."
Again we clapped and swayed with the line dancers as they circled the room and waved their western hats as they left the hall. Thank you Kickers for adding so much rhythm and joy to our GK morning. The Kickers included Marlene Ciochetto, Betsie Benzie, Karen Peronto, Joyce Butsic, Judy London, Jean Alleva, Audrey Mueller and Phyllis Ewig. We hope to have them back again when maybe some of the Golden Krs will try line dancing too.
Prior to the two programs everyone joined in the Pledge to the American Flag and singing of "God Bless America." Orice offered the prayer and Thought for the Day;
"Make new friends, but cherish the old ones." The GK Welcome song was sung for all the band members, their director, the line dancers and Andrea Anderson.
Former GK member, the late Dennis Ryan, was remembered with the singing of "Auld Lange Syne."
Gil Engel asked for GK Volunteers to help with road cleanup next Tuesday. If you can help, please give Gil a call. Clean up is on the Hydraulic Falls Road starting at Pizza Hut.
Don Pedo read several Happy Dollars including his own that said; "Heaven is for real, But this weather can't be." Bruce Stuart was happy to be back and for his program of jazz . All were happy to see Bruce again too. Vance Uhazie, Orice, and the Trudells were happy for the great talent today of line dancers and the jazz band as well as the talent in Golden K.
Ken Schultz was very happy to be the lucky winner of the "Pot of Gold."
The Golden Throats will be singing at Hyland's on Wednesday, May 7 at 2 p.m..
Vance Uhazie is the Chairman of the Month for May with the next meeting on Monday May 5. The program chairman is Gilbert Engel.The program will be about the Niagara Centennial Celebration.
All GK meetings are from10 a.m. to 11 .m. every Monday morning at the Presbyterian Church Hall in Kingsford. Visitors and new members are always welcome at Golden K.
