IRON MOUNTAIN - The Zonta Club of Iron Mountain-Kingsford will again be offering a Young Women in Public Affairs $500 monetary award to an area young woman this year.
The Young Women in Public Affairs award is open to women (age 16-19 on April 1) who are students on that date, committed to the volunteer sector, and dedicated to the advancement of the status of women.
The scholarship deadline is Wednesday, March 19.
The YWPA Awards Program operates at the Club, District, and International levels of Zonta International.
The Zonta Club of Iron Mountain-Kingsford will give a one-time monetary award to the winning candidate.
The winner of the local award moves on to compete at the District level where several $1,000 awards are offered, and winners at the District level move on to the International level where 10 $4,000 awards are given out.
Young women from Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Norway, North Dickinson, Pembine, Florence, Niagara, Crystal Falls and Iron River are eligible and encouraged to apply.
The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a young woman's (age 16-19) commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Applicants are asked to reflect on their voluntary commitment to their school and to their community and the problems limiting the advancement of the status of women in their own country and worldwide.
The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow.
