Petite promenade held for 40 et 8

IRON MOUNTAIN - A petite promenade of the Upper Peninsula 40 et 8 was held recently at Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 in Iron Mountain.

The petite promenade is a chance for all Voitures in the U.P. to meet and greet and tend to business involving the entire Upper Peninsula.

Gene Berger, Chef de Gare, Voiture 659, Dickinson County, chaired the promenade. Grande du Michigan officers present included George Maciejewski, Chef de Tran U.P., Voiture 1288 Menominee County; Louis Oberle, 11th District Cheminot, Voiture 1288 Menominee County; Michael Trickey, 12th District Cheminot, Voiture 599, Marquette County. Also represented was Voyageurs from Voiture 663, Delta County.

Guest of honor was Ray Moore, past Grande Correspondant for nine years and now currently serving as the American Legion as its state commander.

It was voted by those in attendance to have a "wreck" (initiation) at Voiture 663, Delta County at American Legion Post 71 on May 10, 2014. It is expected that up to 10 PG's will be wrecked and welcomed into the 40 et 8 as members with full vote. Michael Bruntjens of Gladstone will be in charge.

Wayne Cuyler, Voiture 659, listed on the U.P. sick list. Wayne is currently in the ManorCare Nursing Home in Iron Mountain. He was recognized for his past work with the U.P. 40 et 8 and until recently served as a volunteer for the American Legion and 40 et 8 Grand du Michigan at the Oscar G. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

Taps were recognized for Mark Herrlinger and Ray Lynch, both of Marquette County Voiture 559, both Voyageurs who passed away recently.
