CRYSTAL FALLS - Several people sustained injuries in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday in Iron County's Bates Township.

The crash occurred at about 9 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 2 and Bates-Amasa Road.

Sgt. Wade Cross of the Iron County Sheriff's Department said that 78-year-old Wilbert Krahn of Iron River had been making a left turn from Bates-Amasa Road onto U.S. 2. He drove into the path of a westbound vehicle on U.S. 2 operated by 52-year-old Donald Powell of Iron River, said Sgt. Cross.

Powell was unable to avoid the Krahn vehicle and struck it as it turned.

Sgt. Cross said that Krahn was transported by Northstar EMS to Northstar Health System in Iron River for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. He was also cited for failure to yield.

Occupants of the Powell vehicle sought their own treatment for minor injuries, said Sgt. Cross.

Assisting at the scene were the Iron River Police Department, Northland Service, and the Michigan State Police.
