The Live Nativity will be presented at Redemption Hill in Kingsford on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Shown here during last year’s continuous portrayal of the Christmas story are Kristine Kass as Mary, left, and Curtis Boirol as Joseph, along with the shepherds. The Live Nativity is presented every 30 minutes, and those attending are invited to come inside the church and enjoy a free spaghetti dinner. Redemption Hill is located next to the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Federal Credit Union at 332 S. Carpenter Ave.
The Live Nativity will be presented both days, Dec. 13-14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The story of the birth of Jesus will be presented by church members under the manger set up outside the church. It is a continuous portrayal of that first Christmas and will be presented every 30 minutes.
"Come find the true meaning of Christmas this season and visit the Live Nativity," a church spokesperson said.
It's that time of year to reflect on that first Christmas and the members of Redemption Hill Church are helping to bring back the simplicity and wonder of Jesus' birth.
The church is continuing this much anticipated presentation, which has become a tradition over the years during the Christmas season. As far as anyone can remember, the church started to present the Live Nativity back in the early 1990s.
Although the church members had taken a few years off presenting the Live Nativity scene, the event returned in 2010. And it has continued to be a special presentation for families, both young and old, in the community to enjoy.
After viewing the Live Nativity, the church has organized a free spaghetti dinner inside the church for all to enjoy. In addition, hands-on Christmas activities will be available for children.
There is no charge for any of the activities and this is an event that the entire community is invited to attend, organizers added.
The scene features about 10 church members representing Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, angels and shepherds along with live cows and sheep - much like the first Christmas.
To organize this event every year, many other people are involved behind the scenes putting up the manger and the star for the Live Nativity as well as preparing the warm meal inside and having special activities for children. The church has made this truly a family event.
