IRON MOUNTAIN - Iron Mountain opened its 2013-14 boys basketball campaign with a convincing 58-24 win over Manistique in Mid-Peninsula Conference action Friday.
The Mountaineers showed balanced scoring, with Cole Rossato and Zach Caudell each netting 10, and CJ Qualley pocketing nine.
"Our defense was pretty good most of the night," said Mountaineers coach Harvey (Bucky) Johnson. "We rebounded well. Everyone scored. A good first game overall."

The Mountaineers led 31-13 at halftime.
Jack Merrill totaled seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Mark Beauchamp, who had the Mountaineers' only trey, finished with six points. Jacob Thomann contributed six points and six boards and Caudell also collected six caroms.
Tyler Kangas led Manistique with 11 points.
Iron Mountain took the jayvee game 64-40, getting 18 points from Carson Wonders, 17 from Tanner Huotari and 10 from Ryan Michaud. The Emeralds freshmen won 43-27.
The Mountaineers (1-0) play a conference game Thursday at Gwinn.
