IRON MOUNTAIN - A winter weather advisory is in effect for Dickinson, Iron, and Florence counties for the rest of the day today.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, residents can expect an extra two to four inches of snow to fall through this evening. Amounts may be higher in western and northern parts of Iron County.
Beginning this afternoon, precipitation may turn over to sleet, freezing rain, or rain in Dickinson County and eastern Florence County.
Ice accumulations should remain less than one-tenth of an inch, according to the NWS.
The NWS warns that the storm will impact travel. Roads will be snow-covered and slippery this morning and may become slushy and icy when the freezing rain starts this afternoon. At times, the snow will reduce visibility to less than a quarter of a mile.
Winter weather also impacted the local area Tuesday.
Snow totals for Tuesday into this morning were two inches at the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Wastewater Treatment Plant in Breitung Township, 2.4 inches in Norway, 2.8 inches in Iron River, and two inches in Amasa.
