This goes to area groups and volunteers who made sure all local residents could enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.

The annual Dickinson County Healthcare System dinner was held at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital; the Pembine Area Christians held the 14th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner; two Iron River churches teamed up to host a community Thanksgiving dinner; Abiding Word Free Lutheran Church of Felch served a free Thanksgiving dinner, and Grace United Methodist Church of Norway hosted a free community Thanksgiving meal on Sunday, Nov. 17.

Hundreds of people enjoyed a hot Thanksgiving meal because of these local volunteers.

These people give the area a lot of reasons to be thankful.

This goes to the hundreds of area shoppers flocked to retail centers in the area as the Christmas holiday shopping season began this week. This is good news for area retailers, the shoppers and the local area. We encourage area residents to shop locally for this Christmas holiday season.

This goes out to shoppers who forget the meaning of the season and are rude while purchasing their Christmas presents. There have been no incidents locally, but authorities say a police officer suffered a broken wrist as he broke up a brawl between two men waiting in line for Black Friday shopping deals at a Southern California Wal-Mart store in Rialto, Calif. The San Bernardino Sun says the fight occurred about 7 p.m. Thanksgiving night when store managers decided to open the doors early to accommodate more than 3,000 waiting people. The doors were originally scheduled to open at 8 p.m. Police say there were three fights at the store. Two of them were inside over merchandise; the third was outside, when the officer got injured. One of the men involved in the fight outside was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Police allege that he was kicking the other man in the head when he was down on the ground. That is not the holiday spirit.
