NEGAUNEE - John P. King, 73, formerly of Waucedah Township and South Basin Drive in Negaunee Township, died at 6:10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living surrounded by his loving family.
John was born July 28, 1940, in Chicago to Peter and Dorothy (Janssens) King and was a graduate of Vulcan High School, class of 1957.
He graduated from the Michigan State Police Academy, joined the State Police in 1966, was stationed at various posts throughout Michigan and retired as a detective sergeant from the Negaunee Post in 1992.

Following his retirement, he and his wife settled in Waucedah Township, having served on the Waucedah Township Board from 1996-2009. They returned to the Negaunee area in 2011.
John's hobbies included spending time at his brother-in-law's sawmill and following his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and trapping.
Surviving are two sons, John (Paula) King of Rudyard, and Tim (Joan) King of Negaunee; one daughter, Lorraine (Mike) Finnila of Negaunee; nine grandchildren, Corie, Terin, Jeremy, Tim and Erin King, Michael, John, Jesse (Bethany) and Courtney Finnila; four great-grandchildren, Jarett, Ellis and Hadley King, and Berkley Finnila; three brothers-in-law, Frank Hulce of Colorado, Lyle (Gloria) Hulce of Vulcan, Wayne (Mary) Hulce of Norway; three sisters-in-law, June Hirte and Lois Giuliani, both of Kingsford, and Nancy Hulce of Norway; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 52 years, Pauline Macia (Hulce) King on July 8, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday at Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee with Rev. Robert Dobson officiating. Mr. King's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. at the church on Saturday.
