Post 340 announces Veterans Day program

HERMANSVILLE - The Floriano-Stecker American Legion Post 340 of Hermansville announced that Stanley Carlson of Faithorn will be the speaker at the Veterans Day Dinner on Monday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial Marker in Hermansville. Commander James Wash will introduce Carlson at the dinner.

Commander Wash gave a report on the Nov. 11 program to be held at 11 a.m. The North Cental High School band with Tom Howerton, director will feature the program. Commander Wash will be the principal speaker.

In the evening, the Post will have the annual Veterans Day dinner at the hall. Command Wash and Ella Gurgall of the Ladies Auxiliary unit are in charge of the morning program and the annual dinner. Social is from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and dinner to be served at 5:30 p.m.

The Post held their regular meeting on Oct. 10 at the club rooms.

Commander Wash opened and closed the meeting. Joseph Bouchard, Post 340 adjutant, gave the monthly report and all the activity which was conducted in September.

Dennis Trudell, Post 340 finance officer, gave a report on the activities of the Post and it included the finances of the July 4 funds, Christmas funds and funds from the Sons of the American Legion.

Bouchard reported that 67 have paid their 2013-14 membership dues and the Post is ahead of membership goes.

Commander Wash reported on the meeting of the 11th District to be held at Gladstone American Legion Post on Oct. 12.

Ted Gurgall reported on the visit to Hermansville by Mike Dellisse, Menominee County Veterans service officer on Oct. 2, at the American Legion Hall in Hermansville. Gurgall reported that Dellisse returns to Hermansville on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Ted Gurgall was in charge of the trick or treat activities held on Oct. 31 at the hall. Youngsters are invited to stop by and get a treat from the club rooms. Legionnaires from the post will assist Ted Gurgall.

Post 340 again this year is having its benefit drawing sponsored by the Floriano-Stecker American legion. Prizes are first, $150; second, $75; third, $50; fourth, $25; fifth, $25. The drawing is Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at the post. Persons do not need to be present to win.

Dennis Trudell of Powers is in charge of the benefit drawing.

"The community of Hermansville is proud of the Post and the Ladies Auxiliary for their observance of Veterans Day," said Wash.

The event goes back following World War II. The Hermansville Post was organized in 1934 and named after Leo Floriano, who was killed in France during World War I and the Auxiliary unit was organized in 1953.
