Sparpana, Fleury home featured on the Zonta Tour of Homes fund-raiser

IRON MOUNTAIN - The annual Zonta Tour of Homes will be held Sunday from noon p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A reception at the Spread Eagle Garden Center will be open from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The home of Gary Sparpana and Suzanne Fleury, located at 4490 M-95, will be part of this year's event. The home is one mile from the junction of U.S. 2.

When you arrive at his pristine country setting you will likely be greeted by the compelling sound of wind in the poplar trees, the family cats, and a friendly herd of deer. Nestled on the shores of Spring Lake and professionally landscaped by the Spread Eagle Garden Center you will enter the lovely home built by owner Gary Sparpana in 2000.

Co-owner Suzanne did the decorating and was involved in the creation of a unique kitchen designed by Debbie Gursky of Cuisine Art. Persons will see real tin ceilings, plates in lower drawers and open shelving, a unique counter top featuring a deer and rabbit motif, designed and installed by Jim Bjorkman, and under counter lighting, just to mention a few of the details.

There is a comfortable covered deck to enjoy the ambiance of the lake, master bedroom, bath and laundry for convenient one floor living. There is an antique in each room to add warmth and charm, and create interesting storage for necessary items.

On the upper level there is an office/ sitting area, bedroom, and bath for additional living space.

The lower level is Gary's "Man Cave" and the location of a beautiful bar with marble counter tops and Gary's many ski jumping awards.

Tickets will be available at Bond Decorating and Julia Rose Creations in Iron Mountain, Maxine's Bridal Shoppe in Norway, and the Spread Eagle Garden Center in Spread Eagle. Cost is $15 in advance or $17 on day of tour at all participating locations.

This year's proceeds will benefit the Young Women in Science Scholarships which is an educational program for local young women in grades ninth through 11th interested in the ecology of the great lakes. The "Tall Ships" scholarship provides an opportunity for young women to participate in an onboard, overnight trip aboard a tall sailing ship science lab, where experiments are conducted.

This years tour will showcase Clark and Mary Lee Lebo and the Leeds Real Estate Building in Iron Mountain, Gary Sparpana and Suzanne Fleury on M-95, Gary and Dee Benjamin, Nathan and Dolly Goudreau, Jon and Suzanne Harry, Richard and Linda Western, all on Lake Ellwood in Spread Eagle.
